Read your ingredient labels!!!

Happy Wednesday y’all!

Yesterday I was perusing a catalog a friend gave me to check out, because it was full of organic products.  I was soooo excited to try a new product……for about a minute, unfortunately.  When I went online to check the ingredients, check out the prices and all the products they carry, my happy bubble was quickly burst.  Now, not alllll the products are what I personally consider unhealthy, but I was shocked at how many were full of unnecessary ingredients!!!  Since when do you need to have sugar in lemon pepper?  REALLY!  There were quite a few things that had sugar or a derivative of sugar or even both that sooooo didn’t need them!  Many of them had maltodextrin listed, which is not only a derivative of sugar, but is also a GMO, and is generally used as a filler.  A lot of the time, for many many people, when they eat products that contain sugar, they begin to crave products with sugar, therefore they buy more of that product, so does that mean they put sugar in it just so you’ll get addicted and buy more?  Who knows, it’s just a thought.  The moral of the story is that just because it’s organic does not necessarily mean it’s good for you.  It means no pesticides were used.  If it says “natural flavors”, put it down, if it says maltodextrin or anything that ends in “ose” (fructose, sucrose, dextrose), put it down, and as far as I’m concerned, at least 99.9% of the time, if it’s not a dessert, it does NOT need sugar in it of any kind!!  So if you really want to use healthier products, please, please, pllllllease read your labels!  You do not need all that garbage in there!  Ok, off my soap box.  😀

Thank you for taking the time to read this hopefully helpful rant!

Until next time, I hope you have a very happy healthy day!  😀

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here are some things to think about….

Hi everybody!  It’s October, which is breast cancer awareness month, so I’m sure you’re seeing lots of things about mammograms and screenings and such right now.  You should really do your research before getting a mammogram.  I highly recommend that you do NOT let what a doctor says influence you, nor your family or friends.  Do YOUR OWN research!

My mom had a double mastectomy in her 40’s, so I am supposed to be checked regularly via mammogram. Uh uh, no way, not happenin’ ever again. I had two when I was in my 30’s and they were very uncomfortable, and one was downright painful.

I learned about, and researched, thermography and found that it is a much better alternative for me, and could be for you! If done regularly (annual) it can find issues yearrrrrs earlier than a mammogram can. WITHOUT the radiation! I had a full body thermogram last year and a baseline and follow up 3 months later for the “girls”, now it’s just an annual thing unless there is a problem. It’s like a fingerprint. Unless there is something wrong, it doesn’t have significant changes. Thermography can not only find cancer but it can find other things too, like clogged lymph nodes, heart issues….lots of things. They even found my plantar faciitis that I didn’t tell them I had! I highly recommend you check into it.

What happens in an exam?  Well, first off, it’s downright chilly, but they want your body temperature to come down.  It’s basically like an infrared camera, it reads hot spots.  It is 100% non-evasive.  A little embarrassing for us that don’t want to be clothing free in front of people, but they make it as comfortable as possible and you are only sans clothing in the area they are checking as they are checking it, then you re-cloth and go to the next area to check.  Then they send all the pictures to a certified specialist to check for abnormalities.  Once they do that, they will send you a verrrry comprehensive report, and can/will send one to your doctor if you wish.

Not all doctors are on board with this type of screening, but many are skeptical only due to not knowing anything about it and need to research it themselves.  Some won’t believe a word you tell them unless it’s literally in some kind of Medical Journal.  Regardless, do your own research, make your own decision and do what you feel is right for you, whether you decide to go ahead with a mammogram or choose thermography, make it YOUR choice, not a choice your a coerced into making.

Please take the time to click on the link below and read the article, it just might change or mind…..or not.  Regardless, please make an informed decision when it comes time for your next screening.

Benefits of Almond Oil

Hey everybody!  Happy Friday!!!

I just read this blog and thought I’d share it with you!  It has great info about the benefits of Almond Oil!  Check it out!!!

“Carrier oils provide the backbone for many DIY creations. Choosing one that suits you best may seem intimidating, but I promise it’s worth the effort. The right carrier can make the difference between a newly made product that is good and one that is AMAZING. We’ve done a few posts previously on the benefits of various carrier oils, which you can find here:

This time we thought we could focus on the benefits of just Almond oil, as well as provide a few ideas for how you can make the most of the various uses for Almond oil. We all know how important it is to choose a carrier oil that is suitable for your skin type. Almond oil can be a wonderful choice for nearly everyone, making it the perfect option for those who want a great multi-purpose carrier to use in their projects and for blending. Almond oil is a light carrier oil that absorbs easily and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling on the skin. This spotlight (below) can be clicked and printed so you can add it to your essential oil binder!”

Sucralose…..good? or bad?

Happy Monday everybody!

Soooo, we all know that Sucralose is man made, but did you know that it’s another name for Splenda?  It’s produced by chlorinating sucrose, which is plain old white table sugar.  So basically it’s just chlorinated sugar, which is a chlorocarbon, and chlorocarbons are poisonous.  Even though our bodies do a great job of detoxing most things, it can still build up over time, which can be detrimental to our health.

The government says that it is safe and 98% pure, but that leaves us with 2%.  What is in that 2%?  Well, according to an article I found ( ), it contains things like lead, arsenic, methanol, and many other dangerous things.

Side effects of consumption of sucralose have been reported by many:

  • dizziness
  • migraines/headaches
  • bloating
  • rashes
  • tinnitus
  • acne
  • respiratory issues
  • joint pain/aching

and this is just SOME of the many side effects.

I try very hard to limit the consumption of processed foods, but on occasion, it does happen.  I try to be a careful and thorough label reader and buy the healthiest choice that I can.  If I can’t find one, and/or cannot make it from scratch, it generally just doesn’t get purchased.  What about eating out?  Just try to make informed healthy choices.  No croutons, oil/vinegar dressing on the side or a dressing you KNOW doesn’t have any of the dreaded and possible hidden additives, steamed veggies, nothing fried, no bread.  No sodas, no sweetened tea.  I know, I know, I can hear you from here!  Sweet tea is a staple here, but I order it unsweetened and carry my own stevia with me for sweetening.  You can  too.  I know, I’m no fun.  ha Your body will thank you for it, if you’re diligent in your choices.

If you’d like to learn more about the dangers of sucralose and other artificial sweeteners, here are several websites for you to peruse:

You can also read my previous blog about sugar, sugar substitutes and natural alternatives for more information:

Are there other choices besides refined white sugar and artificial sweeteners?

I hope I have given you all something to think about.  Over the last few years I have seen soooo much in the health industry that just scares the dickens out of me.  Doctors prescribe meds for the side effects of other meds and then you start seeing even more side effects and the next thing you know you have a new disease or even worse, you’re dead.  Did THAT get your attention?  I hope it did.  Please, please, PLEASE think before you eat and/or drink anything!  Do you really need that man made chemically filled food/drink that could possibly, eventually, even kill you?  Think about it…………..TRY to start making better choices.  Baby steps will get you there.  Yes you CAN do it, if you really want to.  The next time you eat/drink something, I hope you’ll remember reading this and remember to make a healthier choice. Thank you for listening to my rant for today!

Until next time!  Have a Happy Healthy Day!  🙂

Juice Cleanse/Detox

Happy Day after Valentine’s Day everybody!

Sorry I’ve been such an absent blogger.  I will try to be better this year!

To start off the year, I’ve decided to do a juice cleanse/detox.  I’ve written before about Detoxifying the body a couple of years ago.

Here’s the link to refresh your memory:  My personal opinion of body detoxification and stuff…

Anyway, if you’ve been reading my blog since the beginning, you’ll know that I had to have major back surgery in 2014, and then I had my sacroiliac joint fused in 2015.  Between not being able to exercise properly, having all those toxins put into my body (anesthesia, medication, etc.), it has really done a number on me.  Enough so that I’ve been back on blood pressure meds for almost a year.  Well, I’ve had enough and I want off the chemical meds and get my body back on its proper journey to being the healthiest it can be.

That’s where the Juice Cleanse/Detox comes in.

There are lots of benefits of doing cleanses/detoxes, and the one I have chosen to do is also a fast from solid food.  You can do this for a day, a week, or longer.  I do NOT recommend doing more than a few days unless you are VERY familiar with fasting.  I DO recommend following directions TO…..THE…..LETTER!  Ok, now that we have THAT out of the way.  Some of the benefits of doing the one I have chosen include:

* the huge influx of healthy nutrition/vitamins from the fresh squeezed fruits and veggies.

*giving your digestive system a break, which your body will thank you for.

*doing a cleanse of this type is cellular, not just your tummy/colon.  It’s everything.

*You COULD actually lose a few pounds, which is always a plus in my book. 🙂

*Helps do away with cravings and promotes will power to say no!

There can be side effects from doing fasts/cleanses/detoxes, and can be different in everyone.  A few are:  light headed, acne, diarrhea, muscle aches and pains…..just pay attention to your body.  Make sure to always ALWAYS drink lots of water!

These are just a few of the many great reasons for giving it a shot.  I tried 2 days last week as a sample, to see if I could actually do it, and I started a 5 day today.  I had fresh juice delivered this morning, and they’ll deliver more fresh juice on Thursday.  If this week goes well, I’ll do more from time to time.

As always, I’m here to help, so if you have questions, just send me a note and I’ll see what I can do.

Until next time……Have a Happy Healthy Day!!!!! 😀

Happy Monday y’all!

If you don’t know what fucoidan is, you really need to learn about it. Check out If you don’t already know what fucoidan is, you really need to learn about it. Have you ever heard of Fucoidan?

Hey y’all, most of you know that I am working towards my degree in nutrition/natural health.  Well, during my studies, I have learned so very very much about the importance of whole foods/plants to get all of the vitamins and nutrients you need and the possibilities of better/restored health when you cut out processed foods and such.  Recently I was introduced to a product that is not only very tasty, but delivers vitamins/minerals on a cellular level which is very beneficial to your health and wellbeing.  The vitamins/minerals are coming from a brown seaweed called Fucoidan.  There are many different types of seaweed, but many share commonalities.  The general properties of seaweeds include detoxification, diuretic, can remove radiation residues, lymphatic cleansing, can help thyroid, can help cholesterol, liver stagnancy and so much more.  The product line I have found is called Limu.  I invite you to do your own research on Fucoidan, but let me tell you that there have already been over 1200 documented studies on Fucoidan at so be my guest and browse until your heart’s content.

There are also many many testimonies from users of the Limu product line noted here:

There is also loads of information listed here about Fucoidan and the studies/science and nutrition:

If you would like to try the products yourself, please go to:

Not only is the product great, but they also offer multiple opportunites to get your product for free.  Just ask me how………..

Have a great weekend everybody!  😀

Happy New Year!!!!!

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!

Best wishes to each and every one of you for pockets overflowing with prosperity, each and every day filled with happiness, and more blessings than you can manage!  And don’t forget to share with those less fortunate!  🙂

So, 2014 was a busy year filled with good times and bad for us.  I had back surgery (of which I’m still healing, but am doing absolutely fantastic!), my awesome mom-in-law had a liver transplant (and is also doing fantastic!), we lost my hubby’s grandmother (she was 98), and I lost my mom the end of October……

So, have you thought about what you’d like to accomplish in this new year?

Here are a few things that are on my list:

1.  Get back to exercising like I was before surgery

2.  Eat properly, like I KNOW I should

3.  Lose all the weight I’ve gained this last year

4.  Finish my degree (only 2 courses and a final to go) so I can decide on continuing on to my PhD.

5.  Be more organized

6.  Read my Bible EVERY day

7.  Learn how to share the knowledge of nutrition/natural health with others in an informed and helpful manner (I tend to overwhelm sometimes 🙁 )

Annnnnd, I could go on, but I’m sure you get the drift. 🙂  Whether I reach my goals or not, I’ve made them and it’s something to work towards.  In the meantime, I’ll do my best, each and every day, until I get there.

Until next time!  Have a Happy Healthy Day!!!!! :o)

What The Heck Is Miso? + Miso Soup Recipe

Happy Monday y’all!

Here is some information about Miso and a recipe from Vani at

What The Heck Is Miso? + Miso Soup Recipe.

Miso is used in many Asian dishes. It’s a paste made from soybeans that can be used to make soup, sauces, dressings….use your imagination, I’m sure you’ll think of some other great ways to utilize it in your meals! There is also one made from chickpeas in case of soybean allergy! Make sure to research the brands carried in your area because some may contain MSG’s or other hidden dangers including GMO’s. Also, don’t forget to ALWAYS buy organic!

Here are a couple of links with more information about Miso and some recipes too!

Today is short and sweet, but I wanted to share this wonderful info about Miso! It’s so very yummy!

6 Food Labels That Don’t Mean What You Think They Do – ABC News#6

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I read an article recently about labels and it REALLY needs to be shared! I tell people all the time to READ YOUR LABELS before buying OR consuming!!!!!

Bad words on labels include: “made with”, “natural”, “lightly sweetened”, “low…..light…..reduced”, “free”, “high in fiber”. These are the bad words listed in the article, but there are so many others! One of them that isn’t in the article that I’d like to include is “no sugar added”. If you read the label, it has SOME form of sweetener that most likely is NOT healthy! (here is a link to my previous post about good and bad sweeteners: ) There are many MANY other bad ingredients, but I don’t want to overwhelm you, so let’s start with these first…..

And here is the link to the article:

6 Food Labels That Don't Mean What You Think They Do – ABC News#6.

One of my pups (she’s actually 11) is on medication twice a day, and the easiest way to get her to take it is with “flat” meat. Yep, we call it “flat meat”! lol I try to give my furry babies nothing but the best too, so when I saw that one of the lunch meat companies had “natural” uncured, nitrite/nitrate free lunch meats I was excited! That is, until I called them and asked what EXACTLY did “natural flavors” mean on the label. I was told that it only meant herbs and spices, that they did not use it (as many other companies do) to hide things like MSG and such. I asked if the herbs/spices were organic? Guess what? They said no. You know what that means? It means it is NOT natural! So, I no longer buy that brand. It pays to do your research people!

So, what do you think? Will you start reading your labels now? Will you try and pay better attention to what you’re putting in your body? Just by spending time reading labels and NOT buying things with bad ingredients can increase your health! Why not give it a try, it’s beneficial and could not only increase your health, you will most likely lose some weight too because you’re eating healthier! Join me in being an avid label reader! Who’s with me?!!!

Until next time! Have a Happy Healthy Day!!!
