Sucralose…..good? or bad?

Happy Monday everybody!

Soooo, we all know that Sucralose is man made, but did you know that it’s another name for Splenda?  It’s produced by chlorinating sucrose, which is plain old white table sugar.  So basically it’s just chlorinated sugar, which is a chlorocarbon, and chlorocarbons are poisonous.  Even though our bodies do a great job of detoxing most things, it can still build up over time, which can be detrimental to our health.

The government says that it is safe and 98% pure, but that leaves us with 2%.  What is in that 2%?  Well, according to an article I found ( https://www.downtoearth.org/articles/2009-03/68/sucralose-dangerous-sugar-substitute ), it contains things like lead, arsenic, methanol, and many other dangerous things.

Side effects of consumption of sucralose have been reported by many:

  • dizziness
  • migraines/headaches
  • bloating
  • rashes
  • tinnitus
  • acne
  • respiratory issues
  • joint pain/aching

and this is just SOME of the many side effects.

I try very hard to limit the consumption of processed foods, but on occasion, it does happen.  I try to be a careful and thorough label reader and buy the healthiest choice that I can.  If I can’t find one, and/or cannot make it from scratch, it generally just doesn’t get purchased.  What about eating out?  Just try to make informed healthy choices.  No croutons, oil/vinegar dressing on the side or a dressing you KNOW doesn’t have any of the dreaded and possible hidden additives, steamed veggies, nothing fried, no bread.  No sodas, no sweetened tea.  I know, I know, I can hear you from here!  Sweet tea is a staple here, but I order it unsweetened and carry my own stevia with me for sweetening.  You can  too.  I know, I’m no fun.  ha Your body will thank you for it, if you’re diligent in your choices.

I hope I have given you all something to think about.  Over the last few years I have seen soooo much in the health industry that just scares the dickens out of me.  Doctors prescribe meds for the side effects of other meds and then you start seeing even more side effects and the next thing you know you have a new disease or even worse, you’re dead.  Did THAT get your attention?  I hope it did.  Please, please, PLEASE think before you eat and/or drink anything!  Do you really need that man made chemically filled food/drink that could possibly, eventually, even kill you?  Think about it…………..TRY to start making better choices.  Baby steps will get you there.  Yes you CAN do it, if you really want to.  The next time you eat/drink something, I hope you’ll remember reading this and remember to make a healthier choice. Miso is used in many Asian dishes. It’s a paste made from soybeans that can be used to make soup, sauces, dressings….use your imagination, I’m sure you’ll think of some other great ways to utilize it in your meals! There is also one made from chickpeas in case of soybean allergy! Make sure to research the brands carried in your area because some may contain MSG’s or other hidden dangers including GMO’s. Also, don’t forget to ALWAYS buy organic!

6 Food Labels That Don’t Mean What You Think They Do – ABC News#6

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I read an article recently about labels and it REALLY needs to be shared! I tell people all the time to READ YOUR LABELS before buying OR consuming!!!!!

Bad words on labels include: “made with”, “natural”, “lightly sweetened”, “low…..light…..reduced”, “free”, “high in fiber”. These are the bad words listed in the article, but there are so many others! One of them that isn’t in the article that I’d like to include is “no sugar added”. If you read the label, it has SOME form of sweetener that most likely is NOT healthy! One of my pups (she’s actually 11) is on medication twice a day, and the easiest way to get her to take it is with “flat” meat. Yep, we call it “flat meat”! lol I try to give my furry babies nothing but the best too, so when I saw that one of the lunch meat companies had “natural” uncured, nitrite/nitrate free lunch meats I was excited! That is, until I called them and asked what EXACTLY did “natural flavors” mean on the label. I was told that it only meant herbs and spices, that they did not use it (as many other companies do) to hide things like MSG and such. I asked if the herbs/spices were organic? Guess what? They said no. You know what that means? It means it is NOT natural! So, I no longer buy that brand. It pays to do your research people!

So, what do you think? Will you start reading your labels now? Will you try and pay better attention to what you’re putting in your body? Just by spending time reading labels and NOT buying things with bad ingredients can increase your health! Why not give it a try, it’s beneficial and could not only increase your health, you will most likely lose some weight too because you’re eating healthier! Join me in being an avid label reader! Things you may not know about Subway food……..

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  Are you watching the Olympics?  No matter what country wins what, you have to admit that these athletes are extremely gifted in their sports.  They just amaze me!  And just making it to the Olympics is a huge feat in itself!  So, I want to congratulate each and every one of them on their amazing accomplishments and wish them all the bests of luck in winning their medals! 🙂

Ok, so, you know about the yoga mat chemical in the bread that Vani from Foodbabe.com has been successful in having it removed soon.  But did you know about all the other things lurking in what appears to be healthy choices?  For instance, many of the meats have Nitrites in them, which are a known carcinogen.  There are chemical additives in pretty much all their sandwiches.  They use refined bleached flour for making their bread.  I just don’t get it.  They COULD actually be making their sandwiches truly healthy and they aren’t!  There are preservatives, artificial colors, hidden MSG, refined sugar, and most likely contain the dreaded GMO!

I personally would be willing to pay a little more for a healthy sandwich!  Organic non-GMO veggies really don’t cost THAT much more and neither does nitrite/nitrate free healthier meats.  You CAN choose better condiments, or at least give US a choice and have some good healthy choices available.  Why is it that places other than the United States can do this and they can’t do it here.  Does our government really not care about the foods we ingest?  Really?  Come on now people, we need to take a stand!  We need to choose to be HEALTHY!  Are you with me?

I was so VERY disappointed when I read this.  Come on Subway, do the right thing!  Here I thought I was making a healthier choice on those far and few between times that I actually have to eat lunch out somewhere on the run, and I’m not.  Now what do I do?  When I figure it out, I’ll let you know and then we can all have a healthier lunch! 😀

Do you have eczema? Then you NEED to see this!

Happy Thursday everybody!

Really, you think silk is going to “treat” eczema? Really? Come on now. Eczema shows up on the outside, but it starts from the inside, just like every other disease…..

In my several years of studies, if I have learned anything, it’s this…..changing your diet is the BEST way to fight disease. Don’t believe me? There are many books out there that prove it, and there are people that have literally done it!

There are many books…..”Healing with Whole Foods”, but Paul Pitchford is my absolute favorite, so start with that one. “Eat to Live”, by Dr. Joel Fuhrman is my other favorite. So there are two for you to start with. 🙂

Another small step forward against GMO laden foods! :)

Good Morning, and Happy Friday to all of you! No, I haven’t gotten my workout done yet, but I am doing that right after I finish writing this! Promise! And I will post that I have done it on my FB page (www.facebook.com/lisamacy85) with a pic, (DONE! 11:48 A.M. pic is posted and I’m pooped! lol), so you will know I’m telling you the truth. 🙂 K? k.

I am a big fan of Vani, she writes the www.foodbabe.com blog. She shares recipes, favorite products and lots of very useful healthy information. She also is a big activist for using organic products and against using GMO laden foods. One of her more recent campaigns was against a very popular cereal company ( http://foodbabe.com/2013/10/16/how-this-very-popular-cereal-is-exploiting-americans-what-you-can-do-about-it/ ). I personally do not eat cereal at all because there are just way too many other ingredients in it that I don’t approve of, but regardless, there are others that do choose to consume it, and I would rather promote something to those of you that do like to eat cereals that has less bad ingredients in it than something that has lots of bad ingredients in it. So, there ya go! What do you think? Is that not a great step forward for those of us that want healthy products on our shelves? It may not be perfect, but it’s a huge breakthrough! Way to go Vani!
